🛑 Stop the Scroll: United Just Unveiled the "Relax Row" (Economy Beds!)
If you’ve ever looked at a 10-hour flight to Frankfurt and wished you could just lie down without paying for a $5,000 Polaris seat, your wish was just granted.
Today, March 24, 2026, United Airlines officially announced the United Relax Row℠. This is a game-changer for international travelers, and as your 360 Travel Advisor, I’ve got the first look at how this works.
🛌 What is the "Relax Row"?
Think of it as a "couch in the sky." United has taken a row of three economy seats and added a specialized leg rest that flips up 90 degrees. When all three are raised, it creates a seamless, flat surface across the entire row.
The Transformation:Â It turns three standard seats into one lie-flat bed.
The Amenities: It’s not just the seat. You get a custom-fitted mattress pad, a plush blanket, and two extra pillows.
The Target: It’s perfect for couples who want to snuggle, parents with small children, or solo travelers who want the "poor man's business class" experience.
đź“… When and Where Can You Fly It?
Launch Date:Â It is slated to officially debut in 2027.
The Fleet:Â United is rolling this out on over 200 widebody aircraft, specifically the Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Boeing 777s.
Availability:Â There will be up to 12 Relax Rows per plane, located in a dedicated section between Economy Plus and the standard Economy cabin.
đź’° Is it Worth it? (The Advisor's Take)
United hasn't released the exact pricing yet, but based on similar "Skycouch" products from partners like Air New Zealand, here is what I expect:
For a Family of 3:Â This will likely be the best value in the sky. You get the row for the price of three economy tickets plus a small "upgrade fee."
For a Solo Traveler:Â You will have to "buy out" the other two seats, but it will still be significantly cheaper than a $6,000 Polaris Business Class ticket.
Pro Tip: If you are sitting on that 175,000-point Amex Platinum bonus we discussed, this might be the ultimate way to stretch those points further. Instead of burning 100k+ points on one Business Class seat, you could potentially book two Relax Rows for the whole family for less.
🛡️ Why United?
United holds the exclusive North American rights to this specific design. You won't find this on Delta or American. It’s a clear sign that United is doubling down on the "Premium Economy" experience for 2026 and beyond.
Advisor’s "Fast-Action" Checklist:
Check your 2027 flight dates: If you’re planning a trip to Germany or Switzerland for next year, keep an eye on the seat map for the "Relax Row" icon.
